Same As It Ever Was

There seems to be a lot of "surprise" that rappers like Snoop Dog are able to command the spotlight in ways that everyone finds to be "wholesome."

(Which is an interesting description for a number of reasons.)

First, understand that the Olympics are not a movement that ever disrupts the global status quo. No wars, no genocides, no conflicts, no poverty, were ever ended because of the Olympic movement. Certainly none are being ended today.

And these games are contests between various world powers doing the same things accomplished by the FIFA World Cup, the Super Bowl, international rugby, and every other sporting event: distract from governmental and corporate abuses, creating a passive consensus that the status quo is basically worth sustaining. Or inevitable.
